“Music in Motion—That motion is the gentle rocking of a boat for this series of family neighborhood concerts presented by Bargemusic, the floating barge at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge. As always, the material — announced just before the performance — is chamber music, but these programs differ in important ways from the regular Bargemusic fare: With unreserved seating, they last only an hour, include a post-show question-and-answer session with the musicians and are all free.” —New York Times, August 21, 2015

Bach’s 333rd birthday anniversary, Bargemusic will present the composer’s complete works for unaccompanied bowed instruments in five recitals featuring violinist/violist Vera Vaidman, one of the last pupils of David Oistrakh, who performed and recorded chamber music with Rudolf Serkin and Andras Schiff, appeared as soloist with Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta, Jerusalem Symphony with Lukas Foss (on orchestra’s US tour), Gerard Schwarz, Mendi Rodan and other conductors, Israel Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Rudolf Barshai, and all other orchestras in Israel, as well as in Europe, South America and South Africa.

In Celebration of St. Patrick Day

In the words of Emanuel Krasovsky: “The Second violin sonata by Howard Ferguson is, I feel, a very strong piece—compact but genuinely powerful. Five Characteristic Pieces by Charles Stanford are intimate, warm and elegant—a total opposite to Ferguson; Stanford’s Irish Rhapsody is a bright and happy work. And the 2 Nocturnes by John Field—in A major and in C minor—are beautiful and poetic, not that different from nocturnes by Chopin.”

Howard Ferguson Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2 Op. 10

Charles Stanford Five Characteristic Pieces, Op. 93

John Field 2 Nocturnes: No. 3 in A Major, H. 36; No. 2 in C minor, H. 25
